With this being a local derby and Kilbarchan being the league above and also doing well in their league this was going to be a very tight game, both teams not wanting to allow any advantage to the other and with a pre season game ending 4-3 to Kilbarchan it would be a battle. With the weather being good the pitch would be reasonable to play on so both teams were determined for the upper hand early on but what wasn't counted on was the strong wind in the first half to Kilbarchans favour. Both teams played nervously but Kilbarchan had the upper hand with their obvious height advantage and wind, they missed some good opportunities but perhaps Houston had the best chance in the first half with Chris Gillies lobbing the keeper and just putting wide, at half time 0-0.
In the second half Houston manager Arthur Jackson tried to impress the wind factor in favour and to play to the ball on the ground, Houston pressed without looking to cause to many problems. Then a flash point when the referee took to the lime light softley sending off a Kilbarchan player for abusive language in the 70th minute, two minutes later Kilbarchan took advantage of a lacks in the Houston defense to go ahead 1-0.Chasing the game Houston went with 4 up front but just failed with impressive attack to get the illusive goal Kilbarchan saw the game out 1-0, not Houstons best performance but can take heart that they were playing a team above them league wise and hopefully will have the chance to meet again. Houston are at home next week at St James park to CWS Transport in the cup.
